Deccan Chargers Sign Kenya’s Mishra As “Indian”

Tanmay Mishra being a Kenyan cricketer has been bought by the Deccan chargers for IPL season 5 2012 along with four other uncapped cricketers from India.

  1. Tanmay Mishra
  2. Tanmay Srivastava – From Uttar Pradesh
  3. Biplab Samantray – From Orissa
  4. TP Sudhindra – Madhya Pradesh
  5. Akshath Reddy – Hyderabad

Mishra has a dual citizenship (Kenya and India) and hence has been signed as “Indian”. The 25 year old middle order batsman, Tanmay Mishra was born in Mumbai and played 37 ODI’s for Kenya but has never played List A or first class matches for any Indian side. But while world cup 2011 Mishra was one of the few bright spots for Kenya to score two and half centuries in the series with individual innings of 72 runs against Australia in Bangalore. He also made 70 runs not out in a world cup league championship in Kenya’s win against Ireland in a world cricket league championship Mombasa on the day Deccan chargers announced they signed the player.

The spokesperson for Deccan chargers gave an explanation behind calling Mishra an Indian Player; he said Mishra holds an Indian Passport being a Kenya Player and hence Mishra is eligible to be bought as an Indian uncapped player. Deccan Chargers has the advantage here as limited foreign players are allowed to include in the team, signing Mishra would be an added advantage as he is not going to be counted as one among the foreign players that each franchise is approved to bring to play in Indian Premier League.
