International Cricket Officials

In cricket matches two umpires are selected one on both end (bowlers end and strikers end) to manage the game. The umpires shall get position from where they can simply see any act upon which their conclusion or decision may be required. At the striker end umpire may choose to stand on the off instead of leg side of the playing field. The umpires shall alternatively change the ends after each team side has had one innings.

Duties of the Umpire

The umpire should make sure that the game is conduct and the playing equipments used are exactingly in purpose with the laws. Umpires be supposed to make sure that the wickets are correctly pitched, whether the ground is well for the play and whether there is suitable light for play. Umpires shall make frequent and regular inspections of the situation of the ball. If there is any argument about the use of the ball, the umpire shall change the ball after discussion and the ball must be of comparable situation to that in use. An umpire may check with with the other umpire on a point of truth which the concluding may have be in a improved position to see and shall then set his decision. If the doubt remains after discussion, the judgment shall be given in favors of the batsman. All dispute shall be strong-minded by the umpires. The umpire’s judgment is final and he may change his decision.

Third Umpire 

The third umpire or the TV umpire as he also known is an off-field umpire who regularly gives his conclusion when the on-field umpires are unconfident. The third umpire sits outside the field, watching a television replay monitor. If umpires decision was not cleared or he was unable to judge then field umpire will refer the decision to the third umpire to dismissal the batsman, boundaries, run out, catches via signal light or wireless set.

The third umpire checks at a mixture of TV replays from different angles and come to a decision by pressing the suitable signal. A red light indicates that the batsman is out and a green one indicates as not out. If third umpire also not capable to get a clear pictures after watching in the TV then the benefit of doubt goea to batsman. From past years, the TV umpire has been asked to support in dismissals such as run-outs, stumped, caught and hit-wicket.

Boundary : Waving the arm from side to side
Boundary for six : Raising both arms above the head  
Bye : Raising an open hand above the head
Dead ball :  Crossing and re-crossing the wrists below the waist 
No ball :  Extending one arm horizontally 
Short run :  Bending the arm upwards and by pointing the nearer shoulder with the tips of the fingers  
Out : Raising index finger above the head. If he doesn’t raised its call not out 
Leg bye : Touching a raised knee with the hand 
Wide : Extending both arms horizontally

Dead Ball

The umpire shall describe dead ball signal when:

  • • If a player or umpire are serious injured
  • • in a case of unfair play
  • • the bowler drops the ball by mistake before the delivery or the ball does not go away from his hand
  • • the striker is not get prepared to receive the ball and makes no effort to play it and before the delivery
  • • At the striker’s end if one or both bails falls 

Match Referee

A Match referee is an officer who administrate a specialized cricket match, by inspection the game from outside the field. The referee will not give any decisions of relevance to the outcome of the game, but he has the authority to fine players and/or teams members or team for unprincipled play. In professional games, these penalties are financial fines and/or suspension from subsequent matches.
